I want to take my mom on a cruise in 2011 what do I need to know?

It will be the First time either of us have gone a cruise. What’s the best one? How much should I budget to take with us? What does the ticket price include? Staterooms?

Figure on about $100 a day per person for a cruise. That is the closest estimate you can get without any details. Now, first pick where you want to cruise too. Then pick a cruise company( I love Princess), but this choice is very objective. All the major cruise companies are good, just some are better at the food, some are more geared for kids, and some are for the older crowd(Holland America is a good example of the latter). Finally pick your date. Then go a talk to a travel agent. For your first cruise, a local travel agent would be your best bet. Also you will get the best price by booking well in advance. It is common for people to book a year in advance, so the fact that your thinking now about 2011 is very smart planning. I almost always get a balcony state room, so I can see and hear the ocean, but again, that is something only you will have to figure out. Lastly, also you will need to budget shore excursions and alcohol and such. Shore excursions can run anywheres from $25 to $500 per person. Again, a travel agent can help you on this.
